Community First's Help and Support Directory is an easy to use directory of local community services. It has been created to help people connect with support services and community groups where they live.
The gift of giving your time was the theme of the day for an amazing group of employees from a Waterlooville based company Christie Intruder Alarms. The team of ten spent a day volunteering for MHA Live at Home, helping to set up and deliver their annual Christmas party for their elderly members.
MHA is an award winning registered charity, which has provided care, accommodation and support for older people throughout Britain since 1943. It is one of the largest charities in the UK and their mission is to improve the quality of life for older people. MHA provide community befriending, lunch clubs assisted shopping and much more to enable older people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible, helping them to live later life well.
This year the party took place at the Beacon Church in Havant. The team worked tirelessly decorating the room, preparing the food, setting up tables as well as serving the food and clearing the room after the event. The party was a huge success, and MHA were grateful for the help from Christie Intruder Alarms.
Deborah Ward, manager of the Portsmouth and Havant Live at Home scheme, said, “Volunteers are central to our ability to provide this Xmas celebration for our members. Our huge thanks to Christie Intruder Alarms for giving up their time, you have made a lot of lonely people very happy and we couldn’t have done it without you.”
Mandy, a volunteer from CIA said, “It’s nice to get into the festive spirit and it has given us a lovely feeling knowing that we have put a smile on people’s faces. It’s a busy time for us at work, so it’s especially nice that they have given us time away from the office to bring some festive joy to others.”
Without the support of local businesses, many charity and community groups would struggle. For more information about how you can get involved with the employee volunteering scheme contact Rachel Taylor or telephone 01730 774057.
