People in Fareham rounded off the year 2019 and the end of the old decade, in traditional style with lunch on Christmas Day. The Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham, Cllr Pam Bryant and Cllr Louise Clubley, came along to wish all a Happy Christmas.
The event, which offers companionship and a freshly-cooked festive meal for people who would otherwise spend the day alone, was celebrating its 10th anniversary. Fareham Christmas Day lunch is coordinated by Community First and has gone from strength to strength every year since it started, with 2019 being no exception.
This year’s lunch was cooked by retired army chef Guy Stanley and served to 93 guests and 42 volunteers at St John’s Church Hall. Lunch was provided to another 7 people in their own homes. An excellent team of 60 volunteer helpers ensured that everyone reached the venue safely, had a thoroughly good time and went home laden with gifts, prizes and something tasty for tea. Generous donations from local individuals, groups and businesses raised £2000 and supplied over 500 gifts and festive treats for guests to enjoy. One guest, a former chef herself, said: “an excellent meal – cooked to perfection!”. Another guest gave congratulations for “a magnificent day”.
Community First would like to thank everyone who helped make Fareham Christmas Day Lunch a festive success.
