Large Business Helps Re-Launch Community Hub!

PRESS RELEASE

Date: 20 June 2018

Subject:  Large Business Helps Re-Launch Community Hub!

UNIT 12 located in Winnall in Winchester, was the destination for thirteen enthusiastic volunteers from a Winchester and Andover based business.

Staff from Simplyhealth, the UK’s leading provider of health cash plans, Denplan dental payment plans and pet health plans, took part in a rolling programme of volunteer events organised by Community First including conservation, befriending and decorating.

They answered the call for help as UNIT 12 are in the process of relaunching their building as a welcoming community hub for local residents.

The willing volunteers spent a day painting and decorating the office spaces, cutting back and clearing an overgrown area of the large garden for community groups to use and a team of people built a garden shed, which is desperately needed for garden storage. The team worked hard to get the tasks completed.

UNIT 12 are in the process of getting the building ready for a 3-day open event, which will be free for the residents of Winchester to come and look around the building, try a new skill and meet new people.  The re-launch is being supported by Year 11 pupils from St Swithun’s School and Community First, making it a real social action project.   Louise Todino from UNIT 12 said, “Having Simplyhealth here today has had a huge impact on us here at UNIT 12. We have enjoyed their enthusiasm and energy, they have worked so hard and managed to achieve much more than we ever anticipated. The building is now a much more inviting space for the enjoyment of our community”.

Kevin Muldoon, a volunteer from Simplyhealth, said: “At Simplyhealth we encourage our people to support our communities in several ways, including volunteer time. It was great to spend time volunteering at UNIT 12 and help transform a space into something that will become a great community hub.” To find out more about UNIT 12 and what new exciting provisions are available to Winchester residents, pop along on Monday 25th June 12-3pm or Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th 10am – 3pm (UNIT 12 – See the Event Flyer & Timetable of activities here)
