86k National Lottery Funding for Community First’s COVID Response

Community First is delighted to announce the good news that we have received £86k funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to support our COVID-19 response.

Thanks to the grant funding, Community First can now offer transport to medical appointments for those who are vulnerable or shielding. Our fully accessible minibuses have enough space to transport a passenger at a time whilst maintaining social distance from the driver. Details of how individuals can access the service will be available on the Community First website shortly.

The funding further enables us to recruit three short-term wellbeing workers to support our efforts in Fareham, Havant, and the New Forest. We are continuing to work with local District and Borough councils to support residents with shopping and prescription collection. Anyone in need of practical or emotional support should contact the Coronavirus Hampshire Helpline, Hantshelp4vulnerable, on 0333 370 4000, who will connect you to volunteer support in your area.

We will also be able to develop and deliver online training on Health & Safety and Risk assessments for organisations and voluntary groups supporting the COVID response. This will add to our existing body of resources for organisations working during the pandemic, which covers such topics as safeguarding, mental health, and funding. The resources are available here. Any organisations in need of training please contact us at

Community First’s Head of Community Development, Mandy Harris, said,

“In a time when many people, particularly those most vulnerable and shielding, will continue to need support we are delighted to be able to keep providing essential services and to expand our COVID19 recovery offer to local voluntary organisations. We send our biggest thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund and the National Lottery players and we are humbled to be provided with this opportunity to support more people and organisations across Hampshire.”
