Simplyhealth Simply Helping!

Stanmore Community Hall was the destination for a willing group of volunteers from a Winchester based business. For a day in late September, 11 employees from Simplyhealth gave up their time to spruce up some of the communal areas in the Stanmore Community Hall (managed by the Carroll Centre).

The Carroll Centre offer a wide range of services and support to the local community of Stanmore and offer rooms for hire. The centre is busy with many groups and events using the public spaces.  It therefore takes a lot of upkeep and help for the day was particularly welcome.

The team split into two groups.  One group cleared and cut back an area of the garden that had become overgrown, and laid patio slabs to create a hard standing in front of the shed. The difference was clear to see, as the area became a much lighter and more welcoming space. The second group painted the toilet area and the kitchen inside the hall, a fresh coat of paint brightened up the interiors, the team worked hard to make this a cleaner more welcoming area.

Simplyhealth, based in Victoria Road, Winchester, are a large company looking after the everyday health and wellbeing of their clients.  They take part in a rolling programme of volunteer events organised by Community First including conservation, befriending and decorating.

Kevin Muldoon from Simplyhealth said, “We are always happy to help out worthwhile projects and it’s great for us to be able to make a difference. We as a company pride ourselves on being at the heart of the community, we fully support and encourage our employees to go out and have the chance to interact with other organisations and meet people from our local area.”

Employee Jessie Agrella found the day a rewarding experience “It has been nice to spend a day helping people who really appreciate it.  I’ve enjoyed spending time with my colleagues in a different and very worthwhile environment.”

Jool Heller-Dixon, the centre manager was very grateful for their help saying “we are thrilled to have so many volunteers giving up their time for the Carroll Centre. They have done an amazing job and made these areas feel loved again, we can’t thank them enough.”

Without the support of local businesses, many charity and community groups would struggle. For more information about how you can get involved with the employee volunteering scheme contact Rachel Taylor at rachel.taylor@cfirst.org.uk or telephone 0300 500 8085 EXT 9724
