Subject: Volunteers stack up for Winter
Another great day was had for a volunteer team from Pfizer within the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park at Butser Ancient Farm. Volunteers are vital to the everyday running of the farm, with many tasks to be undertaken around the site.
Pfizer, a large pharmaceutical company based in Havant, have been volunteering their time at Butser over the last few years, have helped with many jobs and tasks, and always enjoy their time and a warm welcome from the staff at the ancient farm site. Pfizer take part in monthly volunteering events around the Havant area organised by Community First, which include conservation, gardening, decorating and helping out at a food bank.
Although heavy showers hampered the morning at Butser, the enthusiastic team did not stop working to help with essential tasks to ensure the smooth running of the site. The day’s challenge was to organise a huge pile of firewood and distribute among the roundhouses. The team worked hard through the rain to clear the huge pile of wood with determination and enthusiasm.
Maureen Page, director at Butser Ancient Farm said, “We appreciate Pfizer coming to help organise our firewood. We had a huge pile that needed chopping and stacking under the eaves of our roundhouses just as people would have done in the past. This will enable us to keep the fires going inside our houses as it is important that we give our visitors an authentic experience. We would like to thank them for their hard work over the last few years.”
Michelle from Pfizer said, “It’s great to see the fruits of our labour with such visible results. It has been great to work on a worthwhile project with our colleagues. The rain won’t stop us and we have probably managed to get more of the task done as it has not been too hot.”
