Larysa, Gosport Ukrainian Hub Coordinator

“Originally from Ukraine, I have lived in England for approximately five years. I am a Ukrainian lawyer with over twenty-five years of experience in civil, criminal and international business contract law. I have dealt with people from all walks of life in my career. Every client was treated equally and received the best service I could provide. If clients required further support, I would investigate their needs and source the extra support they required. Since November 2017, I have been living permanently in the UK. I have given lots of help and support to Ukrainians that have wanted to leave the dire situation in Ukraine and come to seek safety here in the UK.
I speak Ukrainian, Russian and English. I pride myself in giving my everything to whatever I do. Now I’m proud to be a part of the big and friendly GVA family. I’m doing here what I enjoy doing: I’m helping Ukrainian refugees to feel comfortable in our community, and to gain access to the NHS, education, government and other services.”

We are in our 3rd year of supporting our Ukrainian residents in Gosport now and over that time we have loved getting to know the Ukrainian culture and sharing our culture with them. From celebrating Ukraine’s National Dress day to providing Families with a yearly Ticket to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, kindly funded by Gosport’s Local Children’s Partnership.

The project has been amazing, so far we have

  • Organised free trips to Marwell zoo with free transport included
  • Christmas and New Year Parties
  • Ukraine Independence day celebrations
  • Distributed Food Vouchers and made referrals to the food bank
  • Helped Ukrainians with completing visas
  • Offered translation services at the Job Centre, doctors surgeries and schools
  • 1:1 support on arrival to the UK
