Community First to manage Fareham Community Lottery

Community First will run the Fareham Community Lottery with effect from 2 June, taking over from One Community who set the lottery up almost five years ago.

The Fareham Community Lottery is a great way for the public to support their chosen good causes whilst, at the same time, have an opportunity to win a prize! Lottery tickets cost just £1, of which 40p goes directly to the good cause selected at the time of purchase – there are currently over 70 causes to choose from.

Executive Member for Leisure, Cllr Mrs Connie Hockley, said:

“I am delighted that Community First has agreed to take over the management of the Council’s Community Lottery.  The Council receives 10% of all tickets sales, together with any funds from people that select ‘Community Funds’ as their good cause, all of which helps to boost the Community Fund.  So, the more funds we get, the more we are able to help local groups.”

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said:

“We are proud to be taking on the management of the Fareham Community Lottery and continuing the fantastic work started by One Community. This lottery is a brilliant way for residents to support the causes they care about most, knowing their contributions are making a real difference right here in Fareham. We’re committed to empowering local groups, and we look forward to helping even more community projects thrive through this initiative.”

Not-for-profit groups can apply for support from the Community Fund at any time throughout the year to pay for capital costs such as equipment, building improvements, etc up to the value of £4999. They will need to show that the project will have value for many Fareham residents and that it can’t be funded any other way.

The Council has worked hard to make this a really simple process so there are no lengthy forms to complete, and a decision is normally made within two months.  All it takes is a phone with officers in the Leisure and Community team, information about the project and supporting documents so that the application can be considered by the Executive Member for Leisure and Community who ultimately makes any awards.

Recent awards have been £4,999 to Locks Heath Cricket Club for a scorebox and storage, £2,139 to Southern Domestic Abuse Service for furnishings for the Fareham Refuge and £1,367.27 to Portchester Community Centre for equipment for their newly launched Repair Café.
