Funding Opportunities

Need support finding funding? Our Community Development Team is here to help.

Increase your skills in sourcing funds with the right training courses.

There are no specific criteria, but consideration is given, among other things, to:

  • People who are disadvantaged (in the widest sense)
  • Personal development through adventure
  • The environment
  • Whether the charity will be able to bring life-changing benefits to its clients
  • Whether a small grant of, say, £500 will really make a difference to the charity
  • How challenging the raising of the money for the particular cause will be
  • The number of people assisted per £ spent
  • The viability of the charity and where the rest of the money will come from
  • How much the charity spends on fund-raising and administration
  • Whether the charity works locally, nationally or internationally

Please complete the application process on the website. Please note that The Trust only accepts applications for Grants by submitting this application form.

We meet twice a year, in April/May and October. All applications are considered at the next meeting following submission.
Spring application deadline: 1st April
Autumn application deadline: 1st October

What We Do

The Newby Trust makes grants to UK-registered charities in the broad areas of education, the environment, social welfare and health.

The Trust does not normally fund community interest companies or other social enterprises.

Charities must be registered in the UK to be eligible for a grant.

In the education, health and social welfare categories, the Trust is more likely to fund smaller or medium-sized charities with an annual income of around £1,000,000 or less. All activities and projects must be undertaken within the UK.

In the environment category, the Trust will fund larger charities and grants will be made for overseas projects. However, the applicant and recipient charity must be registered in the UK.

Please note that usually only charities that are invited to apply will be considered for a grant.

Please send an email to info@newby-trust.org.uk if you would like to discuss making an application.  Due to the number of enquiries received and limited staff time, the Trust regrets that it is only able respond to introductory emails if the Trust wishes to take the enquiry to the next stage.

The Trust does not have an application form.

The Trust makes grant payments by bank transfer.

The Southampton Airport Spitfire Wellbeing Fund has been introduced to provide financial support to community organisations, charities and groups delivering initiatives that reduce health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing.

A sum of £100,000 has been allocated by Southampton Airport to establish the wellbeing fund, which will focus on three key areas of support:

  • Physical Activity – supporting community groups, charities and projects promoting physical activity
  • Mental Wellbeing – supporting groups, charities and projects which focus on protecting and enhancing mental health in the local community
  • Access to Open Spaces – the fund will support groups, charities and projects which promote and deliver access to open and green spaces.

While Southampton Airport will continue to deliver financial support to the wellbeing fund, it will be managed by an independent board which includes representation from the city and district local authorities in Eastleigh, Southampton and Winchester. Southampton Airport representatives will also sit on the board in an administrative capacity.

Awards will be capped at £5,000 per application and funding will be allocated at the discretion of the Spitfire Wellbeing Fund’s Board.
