Time: 10:00 - 13:00

Due to the increasing recognition of the prevalence and impact of trauma, organisations now have an opportunity to truly become trauma informed in order to meet the needs of those who they support, including their own employees and volunteers.

This 3-hour online training is for anyone who works with people who may be affected by the COVID pandemic, war or any other traumatic events. It is for frontline workers who want to learn more about how to recognise and sensitively respond to people who have experienced trauma, as well as for their managers.

The purpose of this training is to develop awareness and understanding of the impact of psychological trauma and to integrate a trauma informed approach to practice. It also focuses on ensuring that the selfcare needs of the staff themselves are acknowledged and addressed throughout, in recognition that the starting point for implementing trauma-informed approaches to practice in every context, begins with looking after ourselves.

The contents of this workshop:
• Understanding trauma and trauma-informed approach;
• Introduction to trauma informed practice;
• Making SENSE of psychological trauma: structuring trauma informed interventions;
• Understanding and responding to vicarious trauma;
• Supporting others;
• Self-care to build resilience;
• Tools and techniques to manage stress, fear and anxiety in yourself and others.

In addition to exploring what a trauma informed approach looks like, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their practice. They will also take away some practical tools to help them respond in a more trauma informed way when they work with service users or support their colleagues.
