Poor mental health is affecting our communities, from young people to older people. Loneliness following covid then the effect of the cost-of-living crisis is impacting lots of individuals in our communities.

This course will help you understand mental health in yourselves and others and will give you the tools you need to listen, reassure, and respond, even in a crisis – and potentially stop a crisis from happening.

This one-day course is relevant to anyone who is working or volunteering with adults. It is especially suited for nominated first aiders to spot signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.

COURSE COVERS:
• Recognise the warning signs of mental ill-health
• Develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe
• Gain skills and knowledge to empower people to access the support they need for recovery or successful management
• Stress – signs and symptoms, it’s impact and how it can be managed
• Starting the conversation about mental health and providing safe advice
• Ways to improve mental health and wellbeing, and signposting to professional services

COURSE OBJESTIVES:
• What is First Aid for Mental Health?
• How to identify mental health conditions
• Look at ways to provide advice and start a conversation.
• Potential impact of drug and alcohol misuse on mental health
• Stress/Depression/ Anxiety – the cause and the effect
• Creating a First Aid for Mental Health action plan
• First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace

Please bring an open mind and willingness to discuss difficult topic.

On successful completion of a written assessment, you will be awarded a FAA Level 2 award in First Aid for Mental Health Certificate from Nuco Training valid for 3 years.
Delegates will be issues with a NUCO First Aid Mental Health handbook.

COURSE ELIGIBILITY:
This course is being offered free with the funding we receive from Hampshire Learns to adults (19+) whose home address is in Hampshire and who can meet one of the following criteria:

• Do not have a Full Level 2 qualification
• Have a learning difficulty or disability
• Receive Income Support / Universal Credit
• Earn less than £20,319 annual gross salary
• Have school-aged children who qualify for Free School Meals
• Currently unemployed and seeking work
• At risk of / have mental health needs
• At risk of redundancy
• Has refugee status

However, please be aware that if you fail to attend, we will charge £50 as we are unable to subsidise your place once booked. Cancellations fees are only waived if a place is cancelled 2 weeks before the course runs, for whatever the reason of your cancellation

Attendance to the course is free, but there is a small charge of £20 to cover the cost of your certificate and workbook.
An invoice will be sent to you after booking your place.
