Coaching is an essential skill for anyone who supports others in their growth—whether you're leading a team, guiding clients, or helping people move toward their goals. When used effectively, coaching builds trust, deepens conversations, and empowers people to take meaningful action.

In this two-day course, you'll learn how to use a GROW based coaching approach that fosters clarity, motivation, and accountability. Whether you're a manager, caseworker, work coach, or social prescriber, this training will equip you with practical tools you can use right away in your everyday role.

What You'll Learn
Through interactive practice, real-life scenarios, and guided discussion, you’ll explore:
+ What coaching is (and what it isn’t): The key principles that differentiate coaching from advice-giving or mentoring.
+ The benefits of coaching: How a coaching approach can build stronger teams, improve engagement, and encourage accountability.
+ The GROW model: A simple but powerful structure to guide coaching conversations.
+ How to conduct effective coaching conversations: Step-by-step guidance and tools to keep conversations focused, supportive, and impactful.
+ Powerful coaching questions: Learn the art of asking questions that unlock insight and forward movement.
+ Common challenges in coaching—and how to handle them.
+ Why we don't give advice: Understanding the value of empowering others to find their own answers.

How You'll Learn
This is an interactive and supportive training space where we will practice coaching skills in pairs and small groups. You’ll receive feedback, encouragement, and templates you can take back into your workplace.

📜 Completion Requirement
Attendance at both sessions is required to receive a Certificate of Achievement. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with:
+ A clear understanding of the coaching mindset
+ Coaching tools and techniques ready to use in your role
+ An action plan tailored to your context

At the end of the course Tara will be offering two participants the opportunity to receive 30 minutes free 1:1 coaching to explore their next steps. All participants are eligible to apply for one of these free sessions. More details about the application process will be provided during the course.

This session will be led by Tara Goddard (PhD, MSc, BSc, SFHEA) who brings 14 years of experience in Higher Education, as an educator, mentor, and leader. Her journey in academia and beyond has been shaped by a genuine desire to help others develop their abilities and achieve their goals, whether through teaching, mentoring, or coaching, she supports others to develop their skills, explore new techniques and expand their horizons. Her approach is informed by a diverse range of experiences—from her Caribbean roots to life in the UK, and from academic knowledge & coaching experience to her personal passions for music and nature.
