On-demand bus service launches in Test Valley

A new on-demand bus service has launched in the northern Test Valley area, providing affordable, flexible, and convenient travel for people in more rural areas.

Funded by Hampshire County Council and operated by Community First, the service connects residents between Andover, Stockbridge, and Conholt, as well as several surrounding villages.

The Connect Transport on Demand service offers a flexible way to travel, allowing passengers to book a minibus via an app or by phone. With no fixed route or timetable, minibuses can adapt to pick up and drop off passengers anywhere between designated bus stops in the SP10, SP11, and SO20 postcode areas, over 350 of them!

The service provides vital access to local towns, shops, and services, including Andover town centre, Andover War Memorial Hospital, and the town’s train and bus stations.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said: “We are delighted to bring this service to the northern Test Valley, where public transport options have often been limited. This service allows people to book a journey when they need it, reducing the need for fixed routes and providing a more responsive, environmentally friendly transport solution.”

The service operates Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm, excluding Bank Holidays. One of the minibuses is wheelchair-accessible and service dog-friendly, making it a great option for all residents.

Ticket prices range from £2.50 to £5.00 per journey, with up to two children under five travelling for free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.

Passengers can book journeys via the ‘Book a Journey’ app up to three days in advance of travel. For those who prefer to book over the phone, Community First’s customer service team is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm on 0333 015 1271.
