South Hampshire College and Community First launch free marketing support for charities

Talented students from local colleges are set to give charities and not-for-profits a helping hand with free marketing and design support, thanks to a new partnership between Community First and South Hampshire College Group.

Community First already works with hundreds of voluntary organisations across Hampshire through Volunteer First and now with SHCG – which brings together Eastleigh, Fareham and Southampton Colleges – we’re now linking even more people to opportunities through their students, supporting groups who need help spreading the word about their work.

Through the ConnectEd: Community initiative, students will put their skills to use on small, practical projects such as posters, leaflets, social media graphics, logos, photography and short videos. For charities, it’s a chance to get creative support that they might otherwise struggle to afford. For students, it’s valuable hands-on experience they can take forward into their careers.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive at Community First, said: “Charities and organisations in the not-for-profit sector do incredible work, but often don’t have the money or time to shout about it. ConnectEd Community gives them access to fresh ideas and practical support, while also giving students a chance to build confidence and gain real work experience.

“It’s a great way for young people to give back, while helping local groups spread the word about what they do and reach more people who can benefit from their services.”

Claire Warrick, Head of Placement at South Hampshire College Group, added: “SHCG ConnectED: Community brings South Hampshire College Group’s values to life, creating inclusive opportunities for students to grow through real-world experience, while supporting local charitable organisations with the skills, passion, and partnership they need to expand their impact and strengthen our communities.

“We’re extremely proud to partner with Community First, combining our shared commitment, to bring SHCG ConnectED: Community to life and make a real difference together.”

Charities and community groups who’d like to take part can fill in a short form, after which they’ll be carefully matched with a student. Projects are carried out by students, off site, with remote support from SHCG staff to ensure a high standard of work.
