Hampshire and IOW Social Prescribing Network Celebration Event 2024

On Tuesday 12 March 2024 c150 people attended the Hants & IoWSocial Prescribing Network’s (HSPN) Networking and Showcase Celebration Event held at the Vineyard Church, Winchester.

Opening Presentations

After new and existing HSPN members & guests were welcomed, Tim Houghton, Chief Executive, Community First started by providing a snapshot of Social Prescribing nationally – there are now c3500 Social Prescribers receiving c2.5 million referrals. The Social Return on Investment (SROI) for every £1 spent, is c£3.42 – with many powerful case studies and life changing stories.

Tim then highlighted 3 key issues that are impacting the VCSE sector:- income, rising demand and the recruitment of volunteers. One of the challenges, is linking up all of the Strategies. Tim highlighted the value of VCSE support in areas such as: volunteering, funding, mobilising & connecting. Tim concluded with a ‘Call to Action’ including ‘if you treasure it, measure it’, joining NASP in calling for more consistent and structured funding and a systems approach to helping people manage their own health.

Kate Drake, Health & Wellbeing Officer, South Downs National Park began with a reflective focus upon a scene of natural beauty. Kate explained the areas covered by the National Park and the Health & Wellbeing Strategy and Priorities. Kate then shared the evidence used to support their work, highlighting two Social Prescribing Projects – ‘Sense of Nature’ and ‘Timescape Residency’ – playing an extract of a short Timescape video. The presentation concluded with details of monthly Wellbeing Nature Walks at the Hogmore Inclosure.

Next Jess invited Hayley Bavin, Social Prescriber, Andover, to describe ‘what mattered’ to ‘Kathy’ – a patient Hayley had supported and how this personalised care approach had transformed Kathy’s life and wellbeing

The Vine Medical Group presentation began with a short video about Social Prescribing, providing information about their Social Prescribing offer and the community links they have. The presentation reflected upon ‘what makes us unique’ going on to highlight the Horizon patient referral scheme, approved premises, collaborative practice and community support.
