Fareham Community Showcase brings together local community

Over 250 visitors attended the Fareham Community Showcase on September where the free event, hosted by Community First, gave attendees the chance to discover charities, leisure clubs, groups and voluntary organisations in the area and how to get involved.

Visitors had the opportunity to chat to more than 60 exhibitors, including Cancer Research UK Fareham Local Committee, Age Concern Hampshire, and Seafarers Sailing Club.

The showcase, supported by Fareham Borough Council, took place at Fareham Leisure Centre and was formally opened by Cllr Pal Hayre, Deputy Mayor.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said: “It was great to see such a fantastic turnout for the event and people expressing interest in volunteering, we are all so pleased. I hope that visitors left feeling inspired to join one of our brilliant local groups.”

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Sue Walker, said: “I am delighted by the success of the Fareham Community Showcase and the opportunity it provided for visitors to find out how to get involved with local groups and voluntary organisations in the Borough. Congratulations to all involved in this fabulous event.”

Feedback from visitors included: “It was nice to network and find out about other groups in Fareham, there was a great diversity of organisations and activities. I really liked the entertainment and atmosphere.”

The programme of entertainment included Fareham Musical Society, Steppin’ Up Dance Group and Solent Sounds Ladies Chorus. Guests could also partake in a range of activities, such as crafts from Crafty Makery and games from Fareham & Gosport Board Game Lounge. You can view all the exhibitors here.
